Here is my process for making legs for skateboards or longboards to turn them into a bench. I made the bracket fit new-school and old-school skateboard bolt patterns.

I start by cutting the skateboard brackets
I made several…
I used a skate spacer to mark the holes
Then a drill press, small bit then large bit
6 holes, for new-school and old-school bolt pattern
To check my alignment… perfect
Test mount to my mini skateboard (See my other article)
I was estimating the height
I settled on 14 inches high
Now to pick the leg length
I think 12 inches should be stable.
I plasma cut a channel for the square tube
Looks good…
And it fits!
I made 2. (Other leg designs soon)
A test look at how it will come out.
I marked where the round pipe will sit.
All the pieces ready to weld
Everything is aligned
I attached the plates to my scrap long board to align for welding
Now to tac weld it
First few welds
Now its all filled in.
Test… It felt right.
A little grinding on my welds.
Then some black spray paint
The paint has dried
Ready to install onto longboard
The hardware I have: Nuts, Bolts, and square tube caps.
Bolt inserted
Nuts added, and tightened
Now the square tube caps
Caps added. Nice touch!
Sweet looking bench.
Even the dog approves!
He is dreaming of carving down the road
Please check back soon, I am working on my own design for wooden tops for the bench with a skateboard and longboard design.
I will also include a printable PDF template to make your own!!!
