This article is about how I make the wood part of these Skateboard and Longboard benches. You can also read how I made the Metal bench stands, and the Paper templates (To download PDF templates).
I start by laying out my templates and see what I can do with a 4’x4′ plywood sheet
I tape my template and mark it out
I add tape as I mark it to keep it in place. (a weight can be used too)
I now have all the patterns traced out
I cut them with my jig saw
The nose sections cut
One board almost out
2 Skateboards are now cut
Now 3 Longboards are cut
Time for some sanding
I adjust my router on a sample piece of wood
Now I round over the edges of all boards.
Here is the round edge.
There is a lot of saw dust made.
My wife and I playing in the saw dust.
What a mess….
Now to mark and drill the holes.
I use a skateboard raiser as a template
I measure from where the curve starts at.
all the holes are marked.
I have a drill bit and countersink picked for my bolt size.
I use a drill press for accurate holes.
My bracket fits!
Now for the longboard holes. 4.5″ from the tail
The other end is 7.5″ from the tail.
I then mark center lines
I used the spacer again and marked all the holes
Now for the longboard nose. 4.5″ to 7.5″.
All the longboards are done
I drill a sample of my countersink in scrap wood. (adjust depth, etc)
Here is why I countersink.
All the holes and countersinks are done
A bit of sanding and cleaning up.
One board we wanted to paint red. I masked off the edges.
